    Hi Dan-
    Yeah it's still 8 days out but would you lean towards race pro arctic or cold for wave 3 classic at the Birkie?

  • Dan

    Edward,
    Fast Wax will be posting a wax recommendation in the next day or so for the Birkie once we get down to 7 days, however we are leaning toward the Flite Arctic or Race Pro Arctic as the top coat. The snow pack on the Birkie trail is old, transformed dirty snow and skis cold. To change the conditions would take a significant snow storm of 4 to 6 inches or a big warm up, I do not see either in the forecast. I also skied the Race Pro Arctic in the Pre-Birkie and had excellent skis to point where you are weaving around people on the down hills. All testing for the Pre-Birkie and the Seeley Hills Classic indicated the colder waxes and fine grinds were fastest.
    Right now the recommendation would be;
    Clean the skis especially if you have been skiing on the artificial snow or the transformed snow
    Iron in a layer for Fluoro Base Prep
    1 to 2 layers of HSLF 0 White
    1 to 2 layers of HSF 10 Green
    Top Coat Flite Arctic or Race Pro Arctic.
    The high fluoros and top coats will be very important in this race to keep skis running fast. The road crossings and especially the snowmobile crossing are very dirty, the snowmobile crossings are also down to dirt, and the skiers have carried the dirty snow up the trail. Many skier that did not run a top coat in the Pre-Birkie stated they had wished they would have as their skis slowed noticeably after the snowmobile crossings.
    For classic skiers we will be testing binders and grip waxes early next week. Skiers that used a hard wax binder in the Pre-Birkie sheared off their grip wax and had to double pole in. For the North End Classic the Blue Klisters covered with a hard wax worked much better.

    HI Dan; will you be at the Great Bear Chase?

  • fastwax

    I will not be there however one of our skies Paulette Niemi will most likely be doing the race. I may go for the Pepsi Challenge or something local
