Snow Mountain Stampede  Colorado  Saturday, March 4, 2006  Temp 28F at the start; 40's F at the finish & slushy
Clay Moseley 20th overall HSF-20 Tan
The weather pulled a spring surprise with temps starting out where they were predicted to finish and warming rapidly.  HSF-20 Tan is definitely not the wax of choice for slushy wet snow, and Clay found his initially fast skis becoming slower through the race as the snow got wetter (at least he had company in this regard....)  Clay is planning on bringing along Flite and a riller tool to the rest of his Spring races; this would have helped to overcome such a major change in conditions.

Sibley Tour  Thunder Bay, Ontario  Saturday, March 4, 2006  Temp 0F at the start; 20 F at the finish, old transformed snow
50K Freestyle
Josie Nelson 3rd  HS-10 Teal Rossignol
Dave Nelson 7th  HS-10 Teal Rossignol
Grant Nelson 11th  HSF-20 Tan
Dave and Josie reported "lightning fast" skis on Teal.  Top notch grooming and beautiful scenery make this a favored race for many skiers.

23K Korteloppet  Classic
Dave Meyer 7th, 2nd age group HSF-10 Green Grip wax: Rex Blue Powergrip base with Rode Blue on top
It was another chilly race start this year, with temps dropping below the overnight predictions and a stiff wind that counteracted the warming temps.  Our wax recommendation of HSF-10 Green was right on; racers reported glide ranging from "so fast I had to avoid running over other skiers, especially on downhills" to "on par with everyone around me"  Some racers chose Teal due to the colder temps and reported great skis as well (Teal was an alternate choice for this race.)  The race team all start in the first few waves, and none chose Tan, but we were told by later wave skiers that it ran well for them (Tan was another alternate choice, with a stronger recommendation for late waves. A few team racers tested Tan and found it good but not as fast as Green or Teal at 8:00 a.m.)  Dave Meyer reported excellent classical glide and excellent kick that lasted the entire Korteloppet on his Powergrip/Rode Blue combination.
Thanks to all the skiers to reported in to tell us how happy they were with their skis!

Jessie Diggins WINNER HSF-20 Tan Atomic RS-10
Although the air temps started out a bit warmer than predicted for the morning, the snow remained dry and cool . Fast Wax skiers made a variety of wax choices.  Andy felt he had very good skis in the 35K on Tan; Dave and Josie Nelson reported good skis at the start and great skis at the end of the 58K on Tan.  Dave C. and Grant mixed Tan and Teal with decent glide results.  Katherine used HSF-10 Green over Teal and felt that her glide was average but not outstanding.  Nikolai had good skis on White and was skiing with the lead group for much of the 58K race until the fatigue from his Pre-Birkie winning effort the previous day caught up with him.  Before the race John tested skis with Green and found his skis with Teal to be faster; Deb tested skis with Tan and found her skis with Teal to be faster; both had incredibly good skis on Teal but experienced a slight decrease in speed (down from rockets to just very good) near the end of the 35K race as the temps continued to warm.  Racers in the 13K reported excellent skis on Tan.

Korkki Nordic Duluth, MN  Sunday, February 19, 2006  10K classic
Grant Nelson 3rd overall HS-10 Teal
Grant reported very good skis on Teal

North End Classic Cable, WI  Sunday, February 12, 2006  Temp 13F & warming, inch or so of new snow
Dan Meyer 3rd age group, 27th overall HS-10 Teal Fischer
Very similar conditions to the Pre-Birkie and Teal was excellent again.  Dan had great kick using Blue Rex Powergrip as a binder, with Rode SuperBlue over top and some Rode Violet Special over that

Pre-Birkie Cable, WI  Saturday, February 11, 2006  Temp 12F & warming
23K Freestyle
Nikolai Anikin WINNER HS-0 White Atomic
Dan Meyer 1st age group; 76th overall HS-10 Teal Atomic fine grind
Though temps were warmer than predicted, the fresh cold snow was dry and favored waxing to the cold side.  Nikolai tested skis with HS-10 Green but chose the skis with White.  Dan had excellent skis as well on Teal.

Josie Nelson CO-WINNER - tie HSF-20 Tan Rossignol
Katherine Himes 2nd overall? (tie for 1st place) HSF-10 Green Fischer
Dave Nelson 4th  HSF-20 Tan Fischer
Icy fast snow conditions: skiers reported fast skis on both the Tan and the Green waxes. Nikolai mixed them and reported skis that were running the same as the other skiers around him (top 12 finishers) .  Katherine had decent kick on VF 40 & 30 over top of a klister binder.  Dave and Josie had less luck using Start Blue klister mixed with multi-viola

Alley Loop  Crested Butte, CO  Saturday, February 4, 2006  Temp 11F at start, warming to low 20's
42K freestyle
Bryan Wickenhauser 8th overall HSF-10 Green
Clay Moseley 25th overall HS-0 White
Bryan chose HSF-10 Green due to the combination of a cold snowpack of mixed old and new snow and sunny, rapidly warming conditions on race day.  He reported great skis on HSF-10 Green for himself and other racers.  Clay also had very good glide on HS-0 White for most of the course.

Balsam Vinterfest Rogue Race   Amery, WI  Saturday, January 28, 2006  race temp 32F & warming
20K Freestyle
Katherine Himes WINNER Flite over HSF-30 Salmon Fischer
When the Balsam race was officially canceled due to thin trails and some icy spots, Katherine joined the band of rogue skiers who ran an "unofficial" race on the course.  Salmon with Flite worked on the softening snow, though rilling would have helped towards the end.

Pepsi Challenge Giants Ridge Biwabik, MN  Saturday, January 21, 2006

Boulder Lake Ski Tour  Duluth, MN  Saturday, January 14, 2006
30K Freestyle   Temp 28 to 31F
Katherine Himes 4th overall, 1st age group HSF-20 Tan  Fisher
The warmer than predicted (low to mid 20's) temps resulted in skis that were waxed cooler than the optimal choice (Salmon) for the actual conditions.  The track was soft as well, but Katherine felt she had a good race even on the Tan wax and stiff skis.

Seeley Hills Classic
Seeley Hills, Wisconsin, Saturday, January 14, 2006
22 K Classic, Temp 26 to 28 F  Old Transformed Snow Dry and Powdery
Even though the temperature was in the mid to upper 20's the snow was dry and powdery and skied colder than normal, all reported great glide on the HSF 20 Tan. The kick wax however was a little different, there were many combinations.  Several that worked were the grip tape, Purple Power grip covered by hard wax and some klisters covered with a hard wax. Dave had to stop to add a hard wax cover over his Blue klister/multi viola mix at the half way point.

Jessie Diggins WINNER HSF-30 Salmon/Flite #11 Atomic RS-10
The snow was unexpectedly dry and sugary; Salmon ran very  well and Flite was good but not appreciably better than Salmon alone in these conditions.  Light and flexible skis helped in the churned-up track that the girls raced on.
