American Birkebeiner, Hayward Wisconsin , 2-24-01     50K and 25K Freestyle
There were 4 to 6 inches of new snow on the trail at the start with an additional 3 to 4 inches  during the race. Temp was 20F at the start and about 30F at the finish.  Our recommended wax for the race was Tan or Salmon, depending on start time and other factors.  Both resulted in excellent skis, even faster with Flite #11 fluoro powder over top.

Vasaloppet, Mora MN  2-11-01  58K, 35K, 13K Freestyle and  42K Classic
The Saturday night temperature was 15 below.  The temp climbed to 3 F at 9:00 for the start of the classic race, and 6 F at 10:00 for the freestyle races.  With a brisk wind and partly cloudy conditions, the snow stayed cold and dry.  Skiers who followed our posted forecast interpretation and skied on the recommended HS0 White were smiling on Sunday!

It was another strong showing for the Fast Wax skiers lead by Brad Erickson, John Stamm and Grant Nelson with 1st place age group finishes. Dan Cruser, Dave Nelson and Josie Nelson were second in their ages, and Josie was third overall.

Josie said, "My skis were so fast... I felt like I was cheating!"  All three Nelsons glide waxed with a layer of Tan over a layer of Blue (this was also the recommended wax for this race on the Fast Wax website.)   Dave and Josie also won the men's and women's Sawtooth pursuit titles, with Dave overcoming a 3rd place start in the freestyle leg.

Ross Drager 4th overall, 2nd age group HSF30  Salmon
Without enough time to test skis before the race, Ross chose the pair waxed with Salmon due to warm overnight temps/warm start.  Ross felt he had very good skis on Salmon, but tested his skis with HSF20 Tan after the race, and found that the Tan was actually faster on the hard packed old snow.

Hello:  Just wanted to tell you guys that I used the HSF40 Bronze at the Hoppet in Australia on August 26th and had great skis.  Several of the Aussies were surprised that I wasn't using the expensive stuff. Temp was in the mid 30's, conditions changed with sun, clouds, wind, etc.
